# Overview of the Neighbourhoods Ecosystem

Neighbourhoods is not just a design, but an ecosystem geared toward driving adoption of this design. This section explains how we intend to get from where we are today to a future distributed web *without* vendor lock-in and *with* sufficient social intelligence for the distributed web to create a viable alternative to the capture of communication by web 2.0 platforms.
